The Marsala is one of the Sicilian wines that has recorded more fortune abroad, renowned and appreciated all over the world.

The vine growing area extends in the western part of Sicily, around the city of Marsala, where the cultivation of wine grapes was already known by the native populations.

What made the fortune of this wine, in addition to its renowned quality, was the possibility to export it abroad as early as 1700, by J. Woodhouse, an English merchant who, after tasting a glass of wine, decided to export it to England. The success was immense and, in a few decades, the Marsala was drunk also in South America and Australia.

The white grapes of Marsala Doc, which undoubtedly represent the agricultural product most cultivated in the area, are Il Cataratto, Damaschino, Inzolia and Grillo. The red grapes instead Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese and Pignatello Calabrese.

From these you can get as many as 5 different types of Marsala:

Marsala Superiore (two years of aging), Marsala Superiore Riserva (four years), Marsala Fine (one year), Marsala Vergine Soleras (five years) and Marsala Vergine Soleras (ten years). All these wines will have an alcohol content of not less than 17 degrees.

The itineraries that can be explored here also range in the province of Trapani, passing through the Lagoon of Stagnone, Mozia and the beautiful Egadi Islands.
