The Marine Protected Area Pelagie Islands
Lampedusa
In the extreme south of Sicily, in the province of Agrigento, where the African continent gets closer to Sicily, there's the archipelago of the Pelagie Islands. The Marine Reserve was established in order to give protection to the particular specimens of flora and fauna that lives in these depths.
Their particularity is given by the presence of different currents, Atlantic and Mediterranean, which generate biodiversity. In the rocky areas you can find damsels with red-orange-green hips, scorpionfish, blushes, starfish, salpe, garfish, octopus, sea cucumber, sponges, wrasse such as viriole and thrushes, sea bream, sea bream, and glances.
In addition, in these waters live also large fish like groupers, leccie stars, amberjack and den fish like morays and eels. There, where Sicily is going to abandon us, there is still a way to be amazed.
